We began of journey offering used CRs and Ultrasound systems. We ran into problems with systems delivered as they came to us directly from clinical use. Electronics will go bad after years of service, consequently adding losses and expenses in parts and uptime. UPS batteries incorporated into older CR systems would be drained and in need of replacement. Sometimes fixing a problem on a used system will be more expensive than the price you paid for the unit.
All CR system we sold would undergo a rigorous refurbishment process before delivery to the end user. We also integrated an OsirX PACS system with our CR sales to facilitate storage of images from other DICOM Capable Modalities.
The sales price of refurbished units increased as we invested in making the units right for our clients. The price increase made the price comparison unreasonable when compared to new equipment prices. Of course some of our clients still opted for used equipment. Some clients encountered problems, others did not. Purchasing used equipment without a warranty it’s like playing the lottery; you never know if you are a winner.
